Understanding Voluntary Benefits:
What is long-term care insurance?
Long-term care insurance helps you pay for expenses needed if you are unable to perform basic activities for an extended period of time due to illness, injuries or disabilities.
These activities could include help with dressing, bathing, eating, using the bathroom, or even skilled care that’s provided by nurses, therapists or other professionals. Employer-based health coverage generally does not pay for daily, extended care services, so long-term care insurance can be a viable option. Policies come in many shapes and sizes with different coverage options. A policy with flexible options is usually a good idea, since you can’t predict what your future long-term care needs will be.
